These college educated women ( and a few good men ) act as matchmakers, not in the sense of chance introductions, but as dedicated guides who carefully pair members together.

The Origin of the Buddy System

The inspiration for the buddy system is deeply personal to our founder, Simon Hawk. In his own words:

“The idea came from two things. First, my own battle with depression.

At one of my lowest points, it was my dog, Buddy, who got me out of bed and pushed me to exercise again when I was heartbroken. Becoming out of shape made me miserable, being forced to learn to walk, then run again and eventually getting back into the gym helped me to strengthen not only my body, but more importantly, my mind. I owe everything to buddy, he is my angel.

Second, it was the friends who showed me the power of true connection.

One encouraged me to travel to foreign countries and ride motorcycles.

Another lent me his motorcycle, an act that completely changed my life and gave me confidence again. I truly understood the book "Zen & The Art of Motorcycle Maitenance" After caring for a Ducati Multistrada, especially after a crash that left me unable to walk for weeks. This healing process of both my body and fixing the motorcycle taught me incredible lessons.

And another stood by me in business—helping me stop self-sabotaging, stop smoking and drinking, and teaching me the meaning of deep bonds of friendship that evolve into brotherhood and partnership. I am eternally grateful to Rodel, Joe & Nabeel.

Without those buddies, I would not be who I am today. That is why the buddy system is at the heart of DEMINT.”
